Grammar, Grades, and Spiritual Growth

The law of Yahweh is perfect, reviving life. ~ Psalm 19:7a (LEB)

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

SCHOOL  |  Onward and upward! Armed with a love for grammar (that I got from my mom), a love for precision (that I got from my dad), and a love for Hebrew (that I got from a college prof), I have started what might be one of my favorite classes: Advanced Hebrew Grammar 😁 One of the reasons I’m so passionate about grammar is because it is the key to understanding the meaning of God’s written Word. It matters how words relate to one another. The persons matter (1st, 2nd, 3rd), the timing matters (past, present, future), the nouns, pronouns, prepositions, adverbs and so on all matter. From a proper understanding of the text’s meaning comes application for life! So, this class will be one of my favorites! Oh, and ‘j'ai fini le français et j'ai réussi’ (I finished French and passed!).

FELLOWSHIP  |  The end of Dr. D’s semester meant grading for an Old Testament Survey course - final essays and other final projects. It’s amazing to consider how many young people are learning how to understand and apply the Old Testament responsibly. Additionally, we started another project: creating an app that places meaningful, devotional quotes from Dr. D’s resources alongside his KINGDOM Bible reading plan. Lord willing, this app will be in a system that can be automatically and immediately translated into 10+ different languages.

Z-HOME  |  God is sustaining us! Nora was hit with two rounds of fevers in April but by God’s grace is back to her smiley, ‘singing,’ screeching, and (now) scooting self. She brings joy to many, Lynne and me being the first. As fruit from our apartment ministry, we’ve had Trudy, a neighbor in her 80’s, gather with our church for the past three Sundays. After the first, she was “hypnotized” by the pastor. She’s had many very good questions. It’s a joy to love her.

PRAYER  |  Thank you for praying!!!

  • Please pray that God would help us trust Him with the small and big details of life;

  • God has kindly helped me narrow my dissertation topic and question to focus on Deuteronomy 33. Please pray that God would continue to help me refine the focus.

  • I (Jonathan) have been asked to preach Ephesians 1:3–6 to our church on June 8, something I am overjoyed to do. Please pray that God would fill me with His Spirit as I prepare and as I preach.

May our God be with you so that you might know the fullness of His favor toward you in Jesus, His Son, your brother and Lord.
